If you filed your tax return using TurboTax last year and you selected the option to apply your 2023 refund to 2024 you won't need to do anything. The software will automatically credit you for last year's refund. If you used another software, or created another account to file this year’s taxes, follow the instructions below to enter a prior-year refund:

If you are using TurboTax Online

  • From the Tax Home screen locate and select Deductions and Credits. Scroll down to +Add Tax Brakes.
  • A menu will appear, locate the section for Estimates and other Taxes Paid. Click on add next to Income Taxes Paid (this will add the section back to the main screen)
  • Go back to the Tax Home screen and back to Deductions and credits. You will see the section added for Income Taxes Paid. (click start)
  • You should see a section for 2023 refund applied to 2024. Select the first option for 2023 refund applied to 2024 federal taxes.

If you are using TurboTax Desktop

  • From the Main Screen select the Federal Taxes tab, then Deductions & Credits.
  • Scroll down until you see Estimates and Other Taxes Paid. Click start on “Other Income Taxes”
  • Scroll down until you see 2023 Refund applied to 2024, and then the first option for 2023 Refund applied to 2024 Federal Taxes.
