When I look for last year's return, I'm told that I haven't filed yet, but I've used Turbo tax for 20 years. How can I find last year's State return?

I need an amount off of last year's form (2022), how do I retrieve it?

I buy the software every year and install it, so you are saying that none of my previous forms are stored by Intuit? Okay, how do I open last years form on my computer, do I have to reinstall the 2022 version of Turbo Tax?

Yes, you will need to install the TurboTax desktop program for tax year 2022 to open the 2022 tax data file that is stored on your computer.

To access your prior year online tax returns sign onto the TurboTax website with the User ID you used to create the account - https://myturbotax.intuit.com/

Start the 2023 online tax return by entering some personal information then click on Tax Home on the left side of the screen.

On the Tax Home webpage -

Scroll down to the section Your tax returns & documents.  Click on the Year and Click on Download/print return (PDF)

If you used the desktop CD/Download editions installed on your computer, the only copy of your tax data file and any PDF's will be on the computer where the return was created.  TurboTax does not store online any returns completed using the desktop editions.

Yes, you will need to install the TurboTax desktop program for tax year 2022 to open the 2022 tax data file that is stored on your computer.

No.  If you used the Desktop CD/Download program the returns are only on that computer and not saved or stored online even if you efiled them.  Your tax files end in .tax or .tax2020 or .tax2021 or .tax2022 etc.  They should be in your Documents in a Turbo Tax folder.  You should also have the pdf files of each year.  Or search your computer for all files ending in .tax.

Have you been saving them as pdf files when you are done each year?  You really should.  Then you don't need to use or install the program to open it.  Otherwise you will need to open the .tax2022 file in the program to view it.

After you get the program installed the first thing to do before you open your tax return is to update the program and install any state programs you had. Then open your file. So you first might need to start a fake return to be able to download the state program (go to File-New Tax Return).

Then go to FILE -Open and find your return.
