How do I get a refund from TurboTax for the amount I paid to file

Did you e-file your return or print it for mailing?  No payment is required until you either file or print your return.

I e-filed and was rejected twice by the IRS.
I’ve used TurboTax for years and never had to pay anything... free isn’t free anymore!!!

What was the rejection code/message?  If you did not change anything it will reject again.

If, after fixing your rejected return, you still are being rejected, you should print and mail your return.  The TurboTax fee you paid is for the tax preparation software.  There is no e-filing fee for a federal or state return in TurboTax Online.  The preparation fee still applies whether you e-file or mail your return.

This is the first year I have ever been charged for anything using the online app. I know of other people have used TurboTax with no charge.

@shears9 Yep, I know.  I'm not a TurboTax employee; I'm a user like you.
With the tax law changes that went into effect in 2018, TurboTax also changed what is covered in the Free Edition.  If your return included any of the "new" schedules, you were required to upgrade to a paid product in order to file.
