TurboTax issue audits for 2020

Hi everyone, 

  I have to say I’m little surprised that after 8 years filing a TurboTax that IRS has found an error Or errors and that TurboTax didn’t flag it. 

   First of all,  I know that I have entered slightly different stimulus amount received (due to my own confusion and checking account check) but now I now everything in detail is at IRS transcript page for future stimulus reporting! It has to be reported even it does not impact our return. 

    Besides that I saw on the IRS notice and where is my refund - it shows that under that part, I have entered all other needed info and my son has been my dependent for a while now. Nothing has changed. The IRS shows as some info about dependent was missing or mismatch. This is so odd and nothing has changed in the last 5 years. I wish I have a way knowing which line on 1040 they are referring to exactly. I have followed all steps and TurboTax didn’t notice any errors or anything fail as related to that. This surprised me and even though IRS luckily has fixed it all. My refund amount is fixed too thankfully and it’s at usual yearly refund amount. 

  All this has delayed it but thankfully based on IRS transcript I can see refund and stimulus is coming in a week. 

   I’m little confused and disappointed that using TurboTax for 2020 has not flagged errors and and line missing about dependent for stimulus received I guess, while I have had entered dependent info. So not sure if anyone has experienced similar or have had issues such as mentioned. 

  I was planning to amend for correct stimulus amount but so glad IRS fixed it and won’t be needed. I do diligence and make sure I do it all correctly or amend if needed. 

   I feel that next year I pay someone to do my tax return as this was bit of a surprise & want to make sure no line data is missing or anything. 

  Now I understand that they are delaying even extra time (not just being busy) but those who claim dependent (which I’ve done for years) and reporting stimulus, unemployment and more. I know this past 2020 year has been a mess so let’s hope things get better and maybe even when we file next year there won’t be any loopholes w using this product.

Please wait for a detailed letter from the IRS.  A few other users have posted that the IRS denied their Recovery Rebate Credit/stimulus payment(s) for one or more of their qualifying dependents.  This could indicate an issue at the IRS, but that is not clear yet.  Please post back once your get the letter.

Thank you. They gave quite an explanation online but I’ll wait for the letter. At least my refund is approved now and should deposit     Next week. When I go to check my payment shows the same but not sure if is for stimulus or refund. I think refund. My transcript does not show the new stimulus date. :( They go by AIG, even if that is the case and if mine shows at or right above that specific eligible amount should some get reduced stimulus? I’m HOH. I have received stimulus so far. 

I would’ve paid someone to do all this for me if I knew would be such hassle. 🙂 I would be surprised not to get any stimulus. Also it says dependent age exceeds the limit. Well my dependent is minor under 6. Yeah all this is confusing. I’ll wait and then worse case call them. Thanks. I’ll post back.

And to add if I understand, AIG limit for head of household is higher which I am Head of Household. Good  to know that they might possibly have error on their end but I’ll wait til I get letter by end of the month and see if any stimulus appear at all. It worries me that they say age of dependent is over limit and it is not. 🙂
