Turbo tax says I’m getting the biggest refund 5,000 it shows that on my profile and it shows that it was accepted by the irs two months later I get a email stating from turbo tax that I will get my refund in a couple of business days but I got a letter in the mail from irs stating I’m only getting 2,000 due to miscalculation and there was a list showing things that could have caused the miscalculation nothing on the list of what could have gone wrong matches my situation at all do I contact the irs ? I was told not to until my money was deposited into my bank so no more confusion would be made but I feel stuck..
You'll need to sign in or create an account to connect with an expert.
You will have to contact the IRS, but if they told you to wait until you had received your refund, then you should wait until you have received your refund. Otherwise, you may spend a long time on hold, only to be told to call back later.
if you get only $2k and you believe it should have been $5K post back if you need help in contesting the IRS changes. we will need details of what the IRS changed to help.,
@DavidD66 I was told by another turbo tax expert to not to do anything until my money is deposited to my bank account that’s why I don’t want to do anything because I don’t want to prolong the process but I also don’t want them to only allow me to have 2,000 when on my turbo tax profile it says I was accepted from federal a refund of 5,000.
FYI ... that generic IRS letter that went out lately is really for the incorrect stimulus payment which is considered a "math error" to the IRS so of the possible choices listed that is the only one that applies. Review your return ... is that the difference ? Line 30 of the form 1040?
I need to find the paper I think it said there was a miscalculation on my 1040 form line 11 that’s what I remember till I find the actual letter. I haven’t received my return or my second stimulus, before I did my taxes I asked the irs how I’d get my second stimulus they said if anyone who is doing my taxes asks me if I’ve gotten the second stimulus say no so they can apply it to my return witch I did so honestly I’m just confused it that is what caused the miscalculation because everything I typed into my form online is what was on my w2
Form 1040, page 1, Line 11 is for Adjusted Gross Income. The Recovery Rebate Credit would be reported on page 2, Line 30.

A $3,000 difference sounds like it could be a data entry error in taxes withheld.
I just don’t know what to do am I able to send a photo of my w2 that I filed ?
