Hi,
I filed my 2021 return using Turbo Tax Premier Desktop app for Mac. Now I need to add couple 1099-R which I missed and I am trying to amend my return in the same 2021 Turbo Tax software. This is resulting in 0$ owed as these were for my 401k after tax mega backdoor Roth IRA rollover. When I finish adding the forms, it shows a validation error stating "Correct your signature Date". The date (03/15/2023) should be within 01/01/2022 to 12/31/2022. This is very weird as just on the previous page it asks for today's date (which I believe becomes the signature date). Is anyone else facing the same issue?
I reached out to tech support but the support person was even surprised that we can e-file our Amended returns and wasted 30 mins of my time saying "I am checking on this" and resulted in no action.

STOP trying to complete the FILE tab since the prior year amended return cannot be efiled thru the TT program. In the FILE tab choose to mail in the return. The 1040X must be printed, ink signed and mailed in ... use the Print Center to get a PDF of the return and the mailing instructions.
Does TT not support Amending a return on Desktop. This thread says it otherwise:
Did you ever get an answer to this? I'm having the same issue, on Mac as well.
Yes, you can e-file an Amended Return, depending on a few factors. For more information on this, please see our Help Article.
For instructions on how to complete an Amended Return for a prior year, please see this Help Article.
I disagree with whatever you said. Turbo tax on mac for 2021 has a date check logic where its showing that today’s date should be before Dec 31st 2022 even if I am trying to amend. That said how can I downvote your answer. This is just a false information and a software bug.
I did not get any answers so far and I did try to reach Turbo tax support on phone but again they were clueless on whats going on. Are you facing the same date check issue while trying to efile amended return?
@sintas You cannot e-file a 2021 amended return. It has to be sent in the mail. Only some professional tax preparers have software that allows them to e-file a 2021 amended return. It cannot be done using the TurboTax do-it-yourself tax software. Print, sign and mail it.
@xmasbaby0 Then why is this article spreading mis-information?
Can I e-file my federal Form 1040-X amended return?
Your link does not work. So--no clue what it says or what mis-information it contains. But---mail your 2021 1040X.
@xmasbaby0 I tried pasting the link but its not working. But I pasted the name of the thread and also its the same link I posted a couple weeks ago (which is working). If you can read it that would be great.
I found the link you posted earlier in the thread. And I am wondering if you took note of the fact that it also says you might not be able to e-file your amended return if it is from a year earlier than 2022. You have found out that you cannot e-file it by trying and not succeeding. If you want to file an amended 2021 return, mail it. Use a mailing service with tracking so you will know the IRS received it, since it may be weeks before you see anything on the IRS site.
You can watch for information here:

@xmasbaby0 I still believe the language is very confusing. From the related link
"Your 2022, 2021, or 2020 federal Form 1040-X amended return may be eligible for electronic filing if the original return was successfully e-filed using TurboTax. However, there is a chance your return cannot be electronically filed. If this happens, you'll need to print and mail your tax return."
This is not about chance as the Mac software is doing a date check for pre 2022. Its a fact that Mac software is not able to amend a return for past years like 2021 or 2020 which from IRS stand point are allowed to be amended electronically. So here the language should be "You can not amend your 2021 or prior year returns in Mac software" . That is where I believe the confusion is coming from. However, is there any way to flag this to actual Turbo Tax support team and get a bug filed if its indeed a bug.
I'm trying to file an amended return for 2021 using TT Desktop on a Mac and running into the date check issue raised earlier. In addition to Federal, I also need to amend NY and NJ returns.
NY State requires e-file. How am I supposed to proceed? Is there a fix for the bug on the Mac Desktop?
@dimab1001 There is no fix to this bug as far as I know. Actually, Turbo tax pros are not even acknowledging its a bug as they are simply stating that we should mail the return. But in your case, you can only e-file which I believe will help them realize they are just being ignorant to the fact that its a bug. I am so done with TT support on this matter.
