Turbo Tax identified form 8949 to be mailed to IRS

Hello There,

I have completed my tax returns and filed as well for the year 2023. But later only I noticed that TT generated a form 8453 with instructions on how to mail IRS. 8453 also marked the against the form 8949. Now the questions are

1) Do I need to mail the forms 8453 and 8949 to IRS?

2) How did this might have happened? I have been filing with TT for many years now and never had to do this. Please help me to be educated.

Yes, if your instructions say you need to mail the form to the IRS, then you should do so.

This would happen if you entered sales section totals in the Schedule D area of your return and one of the categories was something other than category A (short-term covered) or D (long-term covered) or if there were adjustments included in boxes 1f or 1g on your broker statement.
