Turbo Tax didn't pay my federal taxes

Received a letter from the IRS stating that I owe money to them and that the payment is behind and I owe a penalty.  This amount was paid through turbo tax during the time of filing and funds were withdrawn from my account. What do I need to do to verify that TurboTax paid the IRS?

Turbotax does not pay your income taxes. what was paid at the time of filing was most likely your fees for using the software. the way your taxes would get paid would be by any of the following methods:

1) selecting direct debit on your tax return and providing routing and account numbers

2) mailing in form 1040-V with payment

3) payment through the IRS website using Direct Pay, or a credit or debit card.

if the taxes were in fact paid you would see the amount on your bank statement/ credit card or debit card statement covering the period that includes dates on an after you filed.

if you do not find the payment the IRS notice would be correct so send payment by the due date to prevent additional penalties and interest

Just for context Turbotax calculated that I owed lets say 2k in federal taxes.  Before I can complete the efile I choose to have Turbotax take the funds from my credit car.  the 2k plus the fees associated with turbotax software was deducted from my bank account.  Now the IRS sent a letter for the amount that turbotax deducted from my account.  So why did I pay Turbotax over 2k if they were not going to use those funds for paying the IRS?

You can't have the fees paid with your tax due.  You have to pay the fees with a credit card before you file.  If you paid the tax due with a credit card there are credit card fees for it.  Send the IRS a copy of your statement showing the tax paid.

Look at your credit card statement.  The payee is not TurboTax.
