I've been waiting since last spring for my 2020 tax return. I received a letter from the IRS the middle of August saying that needed more time and that they did not need anymore information from me. I've called a few times and was given the same run around - they need more time to process it.
Today, I was told my return was on hold because there is a discrepancy in my income. This did not make sense, and if so, why would they not tell me?
So while on the phone with the IRS agent, I logged into my tubrotax account and looked at my 2020 return. The information on my return is reading differently from what is on the IRSs copy of my return. The information is correct on my end, but somehow it is not correct on the IRS's end. They said TurboTax must have not given them the right information and I can try to amend it. But they have not sent any letter saying anything about amending it. Has this happened to anyone else? How can something be submitted from TubroTax to the IRS and numbers disappear? All information is right on me end and on my copy that I just redownloaded today. I cannot get in touch with a human at TurboTax.

What is different? Did you have unemployment? There was a change for that. Or do you have an amount on line 30 for the Recovery rebate credit but already got the first 2 Stimulus payments?
Yes I had unemployment, which I claimed the correct amount. The agent started off saying I did not report the correct amount and she told me what the unemployment amount should have been. My return, from my end, was exactly right, but wasn't on the IRSs end. Line 3 and 7 are missing on their end, but are clearly on my end. Then the information from my line 9 is on their line 8.
I did have an amount on line 30. 1,100 for two children. I did have another child in 2020 that I added to my tax return. She did not say anything about line 30.
I just talked to an accountant and they said IRS made the mistakes and messed it up. Not TurboTax. But now I need to get them to admit that to move forward. If I amend it I need to use the WRONG information from IRS and not my own correct information. Go figure....
