Why is TurboTax suddenly trying to force me to purchase TurboTax Deluxe? It said I HAD to purchase it because my tax return isn't "simple" then proceeded to list things that make tax returns not simple, none of which applied to my return. Now it says I have to pay the $118 total or $59 for each of my filings when it in no way anywhere states the it is $59 per filing. They are trying to take over half my state refund. This is absolutely ludicrous and disgusting. Not to mention they are trying to charge me as if both of my filings are "not simple". How is my basic state filing that is exactly what it has been for the last 7 years suddenly worth $59 to file?

The Deluxe online edition is currently $59. If a state tax return was completed using the Deluxe edition the state program is an additional $59.
Something on your tax return must have triggered the program to have you upgrade to the Deluxe edition.
The TurboTax Free online edition is for very simple tax returns that do not require any other form or schedule other than the Form 1040. If your tax data requires entry on any other form or schedule then you must upgrade to the Deluxe edition or higher.
If you have not paid for the online edition you are using, have not filed your tax return or registered the Free edition, then you can clear your return and start over with a lower priced edition. Click on Tax Tools on the left side of the program screen while working on the 2023 online tax return. Click on Clear & Start Over.
Go to this TurboTax website for the Free online edition - https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/online/free-edition.jsp

If you have a Form 1040 return and are claiming limited credits only, you can file for free yourself with TurboTax Free Edition or TurboTax Live Assisted Basic (if available), or you can file with TurboTax Full Service at the listed price.

Why on Earth should an extra document on my FEDERAL filing need to cause my STATE filing to cost $59? There is NO extra documents or anything different than a simple filing.
Preview Form 1040. Do you have amounts on any schedules 1, 2, or 3? You can clear and start over, but if there is something not included in the Free Edition on your return, you will be prompted to upgrade. I don't see how this explains how TurboTax is justified in charging me $59 for each of my filings when only one has an extra document.
