Started with the middle$ online product. Right away it asks my employment status but there is no check box to select "retired" status. What to do?

Those introductory questions just guide you to the software. There is nowhere on your tax form that you will enter that you are retired -- with the possible exception of entering "Retired" as your occupation in MY INFO---an entry that has no effect at all on your refund or tax due.
