In 2014 filed my sons taxes. In 2015 son did not make enough. In 2016 he has. With 2016 software, I'm unable to open his 2014 return. It closes. How can this be done?

Solved own question. Opened 2015 software found sons return. Transferred it to 2015.  Opened 2016 software did "Find Return" selected file I just transferred. 2016 software provide option as well to transfer. Option take and 2016 software now recognized sons tax return. I probably could have done all steps with 2016 software (e.g transfer" but i has already committed myself to the long procedure. - Thanks for listening.

The only thing you can do with a prior year's return is download the PDF file and open it using the Adobe Reader program on your computer so you can read and print it. You flat out can not import a 2014 return into a 2016 return.
