I am a schedule c filer and turbo tax allowed me to defer payment of Social Security taxes in 2020. However, when I filed, there was a refund due from the IRS. After months of waiting for the refund, called the IRS to discover that no refunds will be paid out if a taxpayer elects the deferral and has a tax refund. They called it a ghost credit. How will this be handled in 2021 turbo tax? Are there amendment options for this.
Why did turbo tax allow me to file this election and then not receive a refundable credit for it?

Nothing about having the 2020 refund being grabbed for the SS tax deferral is on the IRS website ... which is why the TT program doesn't mention it ...
Are you sure they didn't grab it for a prior year balance due ?
I am in the same position as the OP. Deferred SS resulted in a refund but IRS sent letter stating I wouldn’t receive one.
How do I account for the refund in offsetting the SS due for 2021 and 2022?
Turbo tax offered to apply this credit but it’s caused way more problems than it was worth.
