Refund status

I filed my return by mail just in time to meet the mailing deadline (after the electronic file was rejected). My certified mail tracking states that they have received it on May 17. My inquiry @ IRS site "where is my refund" resulted in the IRS system telling me they cannot give me any information on my filing/refund. Is this a "new normal" given them being backed up, or should I consider filing again?

It IS the new normal ... mailed in returns require human attention  and the IRS is way short on humans.  Check the IRS WMR? tool once a week until you are in the system and then a couple times a week for the progress report.  Expect the processing time to be more than 4 months ... possibly longer than 6 months so be patient.
