Refund Guarantee

You used TurboTax software to prepare your taxes.  You owe TurboTax for the software.  Not paying what you owe makes you a deadbeat, just as if you ordered a meal, ate it, and walked out without paying.  The fact that you opted to pay with your refund and that the IRS has not processed your refund does not mean that the service that you used became free or that it is fraud to request you to pay the bill that you owe.

Refund Guarantee

First TT guarantees that the return is correct based off the data  entered by the user.  Next it has no control over how long the IRS takes to process the return once it is accepted for processing.

And lastly ...  If you chose to pay your TurboTax fees out of your Federal refund, and if your Federal refund has been delayed unusually long at the IRS (or if it's been reduced), TurboTax will want to be paid.  They likely started sending you emailed bills to pay.  If you don't respond by either paying or asking for a deferment, they will ultimately debit your bank account.  If you can't pay now and wish to ask for a deferment, you need to do so quickly.

See this FAQ that explains the process.  The first paragraph of the FAQ has a special phone number if you have a question or have a hardship and need to ask for a deferment.

Hours are 5AM-5PM Pacific (8AM-8PM Eastern),  Mon-Fri

If you need to ask for a deferment, you should call them as soon as possible.  Once they actually start the debit process, they say they can't stop it.

FAQ:  Why was my bank account auto-debited for the TurboTax fees?

https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/charges-and-fees/help/why-was-my-bank-account-auto-debited-for-tur...

The first paragraph there says:

If you’re in need of assistance, call us by the Tuesday prior to your debit date at 1-888-808-1723 to speak with a trained specialist and mention “auto-debit”, or visit TurboTax Support.

If for some reason you can't reach Support with that phone number in the FAQ, there may be one in your emailed bill.  Otherwise, here's an alternate way to reach them, but try the one mentioned above first.

In the future be aware that ALL DIY  programs offer the same refund processing service for an additional fee and since there are only 2 banks doing this they all have the same clause in the contract you signed ... so don't use this process if you can ... pay the fees upfront or better yet use one of the IRS FREE FILE programs you can assess from here:  https://www.irs.gov/filing/free-file-do-your-federal-taxes-for-free

Refund Guarantee

You are obviously a turbo employee! The reason Im upset is the fact that the $160 I spent was for the guarantee that my tax return was done correctly. Now they come back and say that it appears that my tax return is going to be less than they figured it to be. There are free apps that anyone can use that do the same thing that turbo does. I will use them from now on! And by the way…I think you are a dead beat!!

Refund Guarantee

I  do not work for TT  ...   I simply state the situation as it is and offer other options for future use.  If you qualify please use one of the IRS  FREE FILE options that you can link in here :  https://www.irs.gov/filing/free-file-do-your-federal-taxes-for-free    For the 2020 return  H&R Block was no longer an option and for the 2021 return TT has also decided to not participate.

All  DIY tax programs guarantee the return will be correctly calculated  based off the your data entries.  So if you made an entry  error that   is not the program's fault.
