Hello, I finished filing my taxes on the 17th. I received a W2 on the 20th for a job I completely forgot I had in 2020. One weeks worth of pay, $500 to be exact. Is it likely that my refund will be rejected due to this? I am hoping so. The whole amending process seems difficult. Let’s say my return was accepted. Do you get to keep the original refund that is deposited? Or does the IRS take that money back and will I not receive it until the changes/amendments are made? I hope that makes sense. When you amend your return does your whole tax return take 12-16 weeks to receive or just the amount you didn’t disclose on your taxes so for my specific situation $500.

You do not amend until you get the first refund. You can keep it. Then the amended return is only for the difference you owe back or get more refund.
You cannot cancel or change or add anything on the return that you e-filed. It is too late, just like when you put an envelope in a US mailbox
Now you have to wait until the IRS either rejects or accepts your return. If your return is rejected, you will be able to go into your account and add or change it and resend it. Click on Add a State to let you back into your return..
If the IRS accepts your return, then you have to wait until it has been fully processed and you have received your refund or paid the tax due. THEN you can prepare an amended tax return 1040X and mail it in. You cannot e-file an amended return. Meanwhile, DO NOT change anything on your return until you start the amended return. If you did change or add the missing info then take it out and put your return back to the way it was when you first filed it.

what's likely is that IRS will add your missing W-2 and you won't have to do anything.
