It is unknown when the IRS is going to review 2018 and 2019 returns to determine eligibility for the stimulus payment. However, you can still receive it in 2021 when you file your 2020 return. The stimulus is actually an ADVANCE on a credit on your 2020 return.

I have two kids that never been claimed as dependents  so of course didn't get stimulus checks  on behalf of them, so when I recently filed 2020 using Turbotax, as always, I put them as my dependents and expected the opportunity to request their stimulus but program asked only if I had had received the stimulus myself, nothing about the kids (dependents), in cases like this what's the best way to proceed to claim their stimulus ? are they eligible ?

Thank you

When you prepared your 2020 tax return you needed to enter the information about your dependents, with their dates of birth and Social Security numbers.  Did you do that?

When asked about the amount of stimulus money you received you needed to enter the total amount you had received so far for stimulus check #1 and stimulus check #2.  Did you do that?

Look at your Form 1040 and see what is on line 30.   It should include the stimulus amount for the children if they are under 17 years old.  You do not get stimulus money for a child who was older than 16 at the end of 2020.

The recovery rebate credit you see on line 30 is part of your tax refund.

Good morning.

Thanks for promptly replying.

Yes, I entered all the required information in order to be my dependents.

When I asked for the total amount received I entered my stimulus and program said was correct.

Line 30 shows zero (blanks),  am I missing something ? what should next step to claim their stimulus ?

Thank you
