Before starting to amend the tax return, wait for the tax refund to be received or the taxes due to be paid and processed by the IRS.
Did you already get the $4000 from the original return? You will still get the first original full refund (and keep it) or need to pay the first tax due. You should not amend or change your return until you get the refund from the original return or your payment has cleared.
The amended return will only be the difference you get back or need to pay. You can confirm this by printing your amendment and looking at the 1040X. Line 18 should be your original refund amount and line 21 should be your additional refund. If you paid on your original return it will be on line 16 (but don't include any penalty on 1040 line 38). If there is an amount owed with the amendment, it will be on line 20.
And Ignore any 1040V voucher that prints out and the new 1040. Those are what your return would have been if you had not needed to amend.
I have not received any amount of money from my taxes and I filed the end of February I got a letter in April saying my return was under review and when i talked to someone from the IRS they said I had put the wrong amount on my return for federal taxes with held
So do I wait until the IRS sends me a letter to amend or what steps should I take?
So is that why you amended? For the wrong withholding? No do not amend for the withholding unless the IRS asks you to amend. I would wait for the IRS. Did the letter say to mail a copy of your W2s to them? If the withholding was wrong they should adjust your return and send you the correct refund or a bill.
You need to wait for a letter from the IRS before attempting to amend the return.
No. Ip haven’t received a letter since the o e in like April or May and it just said it was under like a 60 or 90 day review which should had been up July 24th or around that date other than that I’ve just been going off what I’ve been told to do from the people in able to get a hold of from the IRS line. I’m confused they’re confused I’m just not sure of what steps ai should take or when i will hear from anyone. I’ve only started my amend i haven’t processed it but it was just something one of the people i talked to suggested since i knew exactly what i had done wrong on my return….
