I updated my TT 2025, clicked on "Amend a Filed Return" for my federal return. I already know it's been accepted by the IRS since last week. According to the support page, when you do that the tax refund amount is supposed to go to $0, but mine doesn't. After I added a couple of extra 1099 forms, the tax owed updated as expected but on top of the previous owed amount*. Also the forms view doesn't show the 1040-X. I think this isn't working yet.
* I e-Filed with payment to IRS on 4/1/26, not immediately.
First, you need to wait until the initial return is completely processed. The amended section of the software will not be updated until the expected date of March 4.
If you want to make changes or add a document to a tax return that has already been filed and accepted by the taxing agency, you should follow these guidelines.

Is my issue that since I put my deduction date at 4/1/2026, I have to wait until then until I file an amended return? Meaning if I'd had immediately paid my owed to IRS amount, I'd be able to e-FIle the 1040X on March 4th?
I will never use TurboTax again
@patrickashley279 The Form 1040-X for amending a 2025 federal tax return is estimated to be available in TurboTax on 03/04/2026
Not until the IRS updates the Form 1040-X instructions for tax year 2025 can TurboTax provide a 2025 Form 1040-X.
Current IRS Form 1040-X instructions are for tax year 2024 - https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/i1040x.pdf
IRS Draft Form 1040--X instructions for tax year 2025 - https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-dft/i1040gi--dft.pdf

Hey all:
It looks like the Form 1040X Amended Return became available today Feb. 27 according to the Forms Availability table. IF it's correct.
I have been waiting since before 2-25 to amend my return. Last time I called the lady said it would be working today but it's not. But I used the link to the forms pages said its ready....I don't understand what's going on. My return has been fully processed and I got my refund already.
I was able to file amended return today, federal and state.
Today 4Mar26 and I was able to amend my 2025return via 1040X. Using desktop Deluxe.
BUT the rendering to a .PDF (from the forms view) is NOT correct. Acrobat notifies you via pop-up that there is a problem and to "contact the person who created the PDF document to correct the problem." The form view is correct.
I have not been able to pass this info to Turbo Tax support - Can anyone here pass this along?
Thank you
The Adobe message has been reported to the tech support group for investigation. At this point, please ignore the message when printing PDFs from Adobe.
@ PatriciaV
Thank you for passing that info on to tech support.
The problem with the PDF version is entries are on the wrong lines. Seems I both OWE and OVERPAID! As I will e-file this I'm assuming the formatting of the forms view (which looks correct) will go though. If not, again I assume, I will get a reject message. I'll wait a few weeks to see if this gets fixed, if not, a screen shot of the forms view for my records will, sadly, have to suffice.
Thanks for your help
@Andy1z What lines are wrong? Are these lines wrong?.....
The amended return will only be the difference you get back or need to pay. You can confirm this by printing your amendment and looking at the 1040X. Line 18 should be your original refund amount and line 21 should be your additional refund. If you paid on your original return it will be on line 16 (but don't include any penalty on 1040 line 38). If there is an amount owed with the amendment, it will be on line 20.
Go by the actual 1040X. Line 18 should be your original refund amount and line 22 should be your additional refund. If you paid on your original return it will be on line 16. If there is an amount owed with the amendment, it will be on line 20.
Ignore any 1040V voucher that prints out and the new 1040. Those are what your return would have been if you had not needed to amend.
All entries and calculations on the forms view is correct. My issue is when Acrobat converts to a PDF it is rendered improperly. This is not a tax or "how to use TT" problem. This is a tech issue.
What lines are wrong? Are these lines wrong?.....
When Acrobat "renders" (converts) the forms view to a PDF...
what it is now on PDF what it should be
line 20 123. blank (or zero)
line 21 123. 123.
line 22 is blank 123.
It's like line 20's data got left out during PDF conversion and the rest of the data got moved up (filled in). And yes, I tried to put a zero in line 20 to force everything down. No success.
Note (if you pass this on to the tech side for trouble shooting) some of the form info (below line 23 bottom of the page below "work area") is overwritten/garbled. Page 2 is ok
Thank you for taking the time to help out!
