I'll assume that if you efiled, you have confirmed that the efile was accepted for processing.   If you used Online TurboTax, you can confirm that by looking at the Tax Home.   Or did you file by mail?

I'll tell you how to reach a live IRS agent, and also how to enlist the IRS Taxpayer Advocate Service if needed.

Here's how one would "normally" reach a live IRS agent, but it may not be easy due to pandemic-related staff shortages, busy tax season, extra duties with stimulus payments, etc.

IRS:  800-829-1040 (7AM-7 PM local time) Monday-Friday

When calling the IRS do not choose the first choice re: "Refund", or it will send you to an automated phone line.

  • First choose your language.  Then listen to each menu before making the selection.
  • Then press 2 for "personal income tax".
  • Then press 1 for "form, tax history, or payment".
  • Then press 3 "for all other questions."
  • Then press 2 "for all other questions."
  • It may then ask for your SSN, but do not enter it.  Just wait.    If it asks for SSN a second time, still do not enter it.
  • Then it will get "tired", and you'll get another menu.  Choose 2 for "personal".
  • Then in the next menu choose 4 for "all other inquiries", and it should transfer you to an agent but expect a long wait.
  • I usually use a speakerphone so I can work on something else while waiting.

If you continue to have no luck reaching the IRS, you can try contacting the IRS Taxpayer Advocate Service for your area.    They are especially prone to help if you have an economic hardship, or if there have been continued delays with lack of info from the IRS.    At the following IRS website, find the USA map and click on your state, and it will give you the number of your IRS Taxpayer Advocate.    If the Taxpayer Advocate can't/won't help you, ask them to transfer you to an an IRS agent.  A couple of users reported that at least for them, that was a backdoor route to the IRS.

IRS. 8 0 0 8 2 9 1 0 4 0. Go through options on automated line and when it tells you to put in your social security number dont.  Put in your employee Identification number and be prepared to wait. Hope this helps.  Btw how longs it been. 11weeks now and I got a dd date for the 26th of April.  Good luck their backed up and really can only wait now.

What does "Your tax return is still being processed. A refund date will be provided when available." Exactly mean?

Everybody keeps saying use this where's my refund tool it does not change it does give you no information nothing! And if you are lucky enough to actually get through on the numbers you provide the person who answers cannot give you any information about your return I don't know why you guys keep giving this number out they just refer you back to the tool where's my refund which again gives you zero information. My refund has been processing since March 7th and if you are lucky enough to get through on the line which by the way 90% of the time says they're not accepting calls if you do wait the 90 minutes for somebody they cannot access your account they cannot give you any information I don't know why everywhere has the same number and keeps telling you the same thing because when you talk to somebody at the IRS they tell you the same thing go to the tool and it doesn't help there's no information there there's no date I filed a simple tax return I'm usually a non-filer I only filed because me or my two kids did not get the second stimulus and since March 7th it's been in the processing stage they received it March 3rd and accepted it March 6th and still nothing can't get no information from anybody nobody has any answers nobody can contact anybody with the answers and nobody can access your account I think it's real irresponsible of you to keep giving out the same information when you know yourself there's no help to be had there. And you tax prepares no that you're not going to get anywhere calling that IRS number last four digits 1040 it's just ridiculous how you guys keep giving out this information knowing full well that if somebody does answer the phone they cannot access your account you guys know this but still you give out the same BS information. Same thing with me it's been processing nothing has changed when you use the where's my refund tool. These numbers that these tax prepares and everybody else is giving out are no help 90% of the time the automation tells you that they are no longer able to take calls if you are lucky enough to talk somebody after waiting the 90 minutes they cannot access your tax account they cannot give you any information except for what it says on the where's my refund tool so anybody reading this it doesn't matter if you follow the instructions these tax prepared tell you to not press one and then press two and then press zero until you get somebody no none of that works because you finally get to somebody and then they transfer you to the number that's no longer taking calls or they transfer you and you have to wait another 30 to 60 minutes to get to somebody who says they can't give you any information or answer any questions because they cannot access your tax account it's complete BS I have gotten no letter I have gotten no contact from the IRS and I filed through TurboTax my refund was accepted March 6th after the IRS received it March 3rd and here it is April 21st and not a letter nobody has any answers the tool doesn't give you any information and like I said if you're able to get a hold of somebody they want to transfer you right away to a number that doesn't work or to another hour long wait where that person has no information and they cannot access your tax account so all this information that they're giving you about the tools on the website of the irs.gov or the phone number ending in 1040 none of that is any help it gives you no information nothing no dates no reason why it just says it's processing and will give you a date when available there was nothing wrong with my return I got my third stimulus and never got my second that's the only reason why I filed I know nothing is wrong there's just no answers😤😠🤬 anywhere
