IRS guidance to employers:
" You must e-file if you are required to file 250 or more Forms W-2 or W-2c.
If you are required to e-file but fail to do so, you may incur a penalty."
Thanks for this. So, if the info is e-filed to the IRS, it has to be on a mainframe somewhere. But they still need paper documents from me? To make this even more absurd, the largest income on my tax return is Social Security. Those documents are from the same government I believe.
Couldn’t agree with you more. The IRS already has the documents requested from me, or should have. They even asked me to send them our Social Security 1099s. Tell me they don’t have access to them. Crazy!
Filed it February 2 2022 and it still says the delay message, what annoyed me was the fact that I got a identity theft letter 3 months later was told on the letter to go online to verify a few things which I did then a month later I decided to call them because it still says "we apologize etc." on the website the lady I talked to said that it still didn't get verified and that she could do that right now, so the online and one month time was literally wasted, now it's still saying the same thing, I remember last year a buddy of mine didn't get his taxes till late August what a joke.
That’s terrible! I’m so sorry. Mine finally came in. Three months and 16 days after it was accepted. I hope yours arrives soon.
Complain to your local congress person and demand that the IRS be properly funded, staffed and supplied with updated equipment so they can do their jobs timely. Also if they would stop changing tax laws at the last minute and/or issuing advance stimulus & CTC payments that need to be reconciled on an income tax return that would also lighten the IRS workload significantly.
Good suggestion. There’s also a lot that can be done without spending money. They can lose the “guilty until proven innocent” attitude and they can stop harassing electronic filers, asking for documents that they already have on file. Every W2 and 1099 I’ve received came with a warning that the same information has been sent to the IRS. They are so behind, yet they create themselves more work.
Mine said the same
