I filled my daughters and sons taxes back in Feb 2020. Both are college students and received unemployment when they couldn't work their summer jobs due to COVID. It said they both owed over $1,500 in taxes and both paid when they filed. After the $10,200 exemption was passed, turbo tax now says they should get a refund (that would mean the refund plus the amount they originally paid). It's now October and the IRS hasn't sent a refund, but turbo tax says amended taxes aren't necessary. Should we file amended taxes anyway or is Turbotax inaccurate and they really don't get the refund because they are claimed on my taxes as dependents? There is nothing on the IRS website about dependents. I did check my sons IRS transcripts, but it still just shows the information for the original filing.
