Unable to remove document from the Documents tab

Hi Brittany. I understand exactly what this post is about. Go back and read my post closely. The link you provided. is about deleting Documents from the Desktop version on Windows. If you click on the link you provided, here is the header of what you get:

How do I delete a tax return that was created in TurboTax Desktop for Windows?

BUT, we are all talking about Documents sitting online on our Intuit accounts that we didn't put out there, but were put there by you guys somehow as we did our tax processing on our TurboTax Windows desktop software. We just want to be able to delete those online Documents that we never wanted out there in the first place. You currently have no way for the user to do that. You do have a way to mysteriously make the documents disappear, because my 1099 documents that were out there 2 days ago have now disappeared without any explanation to me. This is very sloppy and makes your account security very suspect.

@txmx

Question.

Have you downloaded your 1099's for the tax year 2024 yet?

As I mentioned above, only my 2024 1099's are showing.

It looks like they removed all of the old ones.

If you download the PDF 1099 version from your Financial Institutions there is no need to have the old ones on your TT account. Except to do current years taxes.

When you do your TT 1040's always keep  a copy that is sent via e-file and one with the worksheets as a PDF.

As always save copies not just on your computer but back them up either on a CD or use an online backup service.

Unable to remove document from the Documents tab

I have not downloaded any 1099 or other data for 2024. There were 1099 documents online on my account for tax years 2020-2023 a couple of days ago. Those all mysteriously disappeared as of today, with no communication to me from Intuit that they were going to do this, and I had not made a request for this to occur at that time. It's a security and communications mess at this point and I will not be entering any 2024 data anywhere at this point.

4 months and counting. No progress on this serious security issue.

Some of the so called experts in the forum can't even read the problem what we users tried to solve. Shame !

Mine is empty now too, I didn't do anything either on my side. I did call and the lady said she would put in a 'ticket' but I didn't really know what was going to happen since I was never contacted again. This was a while back around my first post.

Solved!
I too have 1099s from this year on the documents page online on the intuit account page. If I use the left menu, overview and then documents, I get my 1099s with no way to delete them.
Instead if I select left menu, overview, then right menu, Quick actions, manage subscription, select turbo tax,
then Turbo tax online 2023 (I didn't do an online in 2023), tax returns and documents and now the same documents are available with the three dots, downloade, edit and delete.
Hope this helps.
Blue skys!

I, too, was very frustrated by this. I finally got it to work and replicated it several times, so I am confident it will work for you.

I went to TurboTax online as if I was going to file my taxes. I then clicked on Help. Typed 1099. This will give you ai generated responses.  and a box that you can click on that says 1099 misc or 1099 nec. Click on it. You will now notice that the menu on the left side of the page changes. You will see the Document option on the upper left side. I clicked it and my documents were there. The three little dots that opens up the options to delete was there. I was elated. I was able to delete the files.

I hope this helps someone.

Thank you @flyingmooseman. This worked for me too!

I was shocked to find tax documents associated to my account with no obvious way to delete them.

I have been using TurboTax desktop version since before it had an on-line version, and I had no idea that Intuit was retaining documents exported from my financial institution in their cloud. That is exactly why I NEVER used the online versions of TurboTax.

This is something that should have been fixed when it was reported 6 months ago. Actually, it should have never been an issue in the first place!

I agree with what others in this thread have said. This is a serious security flaw and breach of trust by Intuit.

I hope Intuit is listening.

Curious.

How many of you are using the Desktop version?
If you are using the Desktop version, is there still anything showing under Documents?

If you are using the Online version same questions.

Please state which version you are using.

Thanks

A user just like you.

I am using the Desktop version, and my documents were visible online on TurboTax.
