We are going through the same thing.
When the government decides to audit or flag your return for additional review, only they know why. The IRS will send a notice with an explanation as to why they are reviewing your return. You can review the following TurboTax FAQ to get help with understanding your IRS letter: We can help with your IRS letter.

Hey there, I am facing the same situation in 2020. I called asking about my refund, they said it's under 60-day review, nothing needed from my end.
Did you ever end up getting your refund last year? How long did it actually end up taking?
Holy crap.....6 months?? Did you ever get your refund? This is scaring the hell out of me.
I have this exact same thing happening to me except I've NEVER received any notification from the IRS that they are reviewing my tax return. Is that proper protocol not to let me know what's happening NOT EVEN A LETTER?

Did you ever receive your refund and when?
@gonzotmb4 If the IRS decides to review your tax return, they should send a letter. If you haven't received one, and it's been over 21 days since your return was accepted, you should call them directly to inquire. You can go here for tips on reaching a live IRS agent when you call.
I been dealing with the same issue... I checked my tax transcripts again right now and my account shows:
Examination closed for review 3/12
Refund freeze removed 4/6
Notification sent 4/6
and last time I checked my transcripts it wasn’t saying this... So I’m assuming they’re sending my deposit 4/6... finally.
