So I filed my taxes and put the correct banking info but for some reason the irs is trying to send my stimulus to a no existent account how do I get this fixed
You'll need to sign in or create an account to connect with an expert.
If the bank information is invalid or the account has been closed, the bank will return the money to the IRS and the IRS will then mail the money by check to the address it has on file.
What doesn't make sense is I called the irs talked to a rep confirmed the address they had was able to successfully log into get my payment once but now it's saying incorrect info entered. Now I don't know if they updated my bank account info with my 2020 tax return and can't even log into get my refund. Am I the only one going through this?
No, you are not the only one going through this. Since you did call and actually talk to someone, it would seem they made the changes you requested however, it may take some time to update all of the systems associated with changes. It's a pressure cooker time right now with so much taking place at once.
The IRS is required to reconcile the tax returns and stimulus payments as well as working on the third stimulus payments due to the American Rescue Plan. With the tax season and the changes taking place all at once, a delay should be expected for full payments. They want to be diligent and are required to follow any protocols they have been issued. They will make any adjustments and additional payments as they complete the process.
And if we throw in any other situations, like yours, where information needs to be changed, a backlog might be expected.
