Hello, I'm currently in the process of amending my 2019 tax return in order to remove the dependent that I claimed. I already have form 1040x mostly filled out, but I don't know what to put in the "exemptions and dependents" part of the form. Since I am attempting to remove the dependent, do I just leave that section blank?
I've been trying to get this amendment done for months and I'm so close to being done, I just need help with this last part. Any knowledge on the subject would be GREATLY appreciated.
You'll need to sign in or create an account to connect with an expert.
Since you are no longer claiming a dependent there is nothing to enter into that box. You can also no longer claim an exemption for him/her.
Thank you very much! I just finished filling it out and sent it.
Thanks again.
Hi, what if there is a mistake on my 1099 DIV, there is a correction like, for example $1000, but amended of $70. And i did not file it, do i need to pay or IRS will give me more of my returns? Is there any chances that turbotax will file my amended taxes and send to IRS. Or i am the one will mailed it?
You are the owner of the account owner that the dividend has been incorrectly reported to.
If the original dividend amount was $1000 and was reported on your tax return, you may have overstated your income and overpaid tax.
The IRS will not automatically adjust your return when the corrected dividend is issued.
Neither will TurboTax.
You are the only one with the authority or responsibility to amend a tax return that you have filed.
You have up to 3 years from the original due date of the return filed to file an amended return to claim a refund.
Thank you, I’ll do it right away...
I filed and was accepted still haven’t received anything what do I do?
You can track the status of your Federal amended return using the IRS website Where's My Amended Return. You need to wait about 3 weeks from the date you mailed your amended return for information to show up in their system.
