My return was rejected due to data on 8915-F. TurboTax wont let me remove FEMA # entry on line C in order to refile

I don't see a "forms" section on my laptop.

If you are using the online program, you won't have a FORMS button (that is desktop only).   For the online version, there are 2 ways to remove the text from Line C.

  1. Login to your TurboTax Account
  2. Click on the "Search" on the top and type “1099-R”
  3. Click on “Jump to 1099-R”
  4. If you do not have any 2022 1099-R answer "No" to "Did you get a 1099-R in 2022?" (If you have any other 1099-R then enter all 1099-R and after entering your last 1099-R click "Continue" on the “Review your 1099-R info” screen)
  5. Answer "Yes" to the "Have you ever taken a disaster distribution before 2022?" screen
  6. Answer "Yes" to "Did you take a 2020 Qualified Disaster Distribution?"
  7. Uncheck the box next to "If this was a Coronavirus-related distribution reported in 2020 check here" and click continue
  8. On the "Which disaster affected you in 2020?" screen I selected the blank entry and click "back
  9. Then recheck the box next to "If this was a Coronavirus-related distribution reported in 2020 check here" and continue.

Another option is to delete "Form 8915-F" and "Qualified 2020 Disaster Retirement Distr" and then go back to the retirement section and reenter the information:

  1. Open or continue your return in TurboTax.
  2. In the left menu, select "Tax Tools" and then "Tools".
  3. In the pop-up window Tool Center, select "Delete a form".
  4. Select "Delete" next to "Form 8915-F" and "Qualified 2020 Disaster Retirement Distr" and follow the instructions.
  5. Click on the "Search" on the top and type “1099-R”
  6. Click on “Jump to 1099-R”
  7. If you do not have any 2022 1099-R answer "No" to "Did you get a 1099-R in 2022?" (If you have any other 1099-R then enter all 1099-R and after entering your last 1099-R click "Continue" on the “Review your 1099-R info” screen)
  8. Answer "Yes" to the "Have you ever taken a disaster distribution before 2022?" screen
  9. Answer "Yes" to "Did you take a 2020 Qualified Disaster Distribution?"
  10. Check the box next to "If this was a Coronavirus-related distribution reported in 2020 check here" and enter your information.   @Meeks29

Thanks for these instructions - I was able to follow your workaround and get the form accurate to the written instructions on the form. Hopefully no more rejections!

Wow we actually got Line C to be blank. We had to select a dummy FEMA distribution in the drop down, go back and check the box, click through the following questions, go back and uncheck the box, select the blank space, go back and recheck the box, then it worked

I work for TT as and product expert this fix worked on 3/11/2022

That happened to me three times last night, the best way to do it is go back to your income and edit your 1099R and at the very end then, follow the steps below to correct invalid information: 1) Answer on-screen questions until you get to the screen. "Did You take a 2020 Qualified Disaster Distribution?" 2) Mark the yes box at the top of the screen. 3) If you need to correct the FEMA Number that appears on Form 8915-F, line C, you must clear the checkbox labeled "If this was a Coronavirus-related distribution reported in 2020 check here". Then proceed to the next screen, where you can select a valid FEMA number. Click continue. If you need to clear the FEMA Number, go back and select the blank entry at the top of the FEMA dropdown list. 4) If necessary, go back to the screen in step 1, and check the box to indicate that this was a Coronavirus-related distribution. The rerun your review, it will work then resubmit for efile. However now my return says pending on TurboTax but no liner rejected

I resubmitted mine but it’s still pending after I fixed the error, how long did it take to be accepted?

This solution worked for me as well!

Thank you for this trick

If you are using the ONLINE VERSION go back to the section where you input the info and click the ‘no’ box for prior disasters to delete the form. Then go back to the section and click yes again the generate the form. When I did this the new form had a legit Coronavirus FEMA code instead of the Covid-19 so apparently the form has been fixed.

Thanks for posting - your procedure seems to have worked for me.  Hopefully it will be accepted this time.

I refilled mine last night after it was rejected three times and it’s still pending. What does that mean? I noticed some folks here refiled after fixing the 8915F and then got accepted within hours.

So the first time I tried what you did it did erase the Covid wording in section C but  I couldn't get the x marked off in section D. After using what you did to clear section C to blank. I went back selected the box for covid and clicked continue 2 times before going back to file and saw that section C was empty and Box for D was checked off. I re did my efile hopefully they accept it this time.
