My 2018 federal return changed. That return is already updated. It affects my 2018 NJ return. How do I just amend my NJ return without affecting federal?

When you amend in TurboTax, you just change the fields that need to be updated.  in some cases, you will have to make the changes on the federal return for it to flow to the state ret;urn.

When you finish the amend, you will print out the return, sign it, and mail it.  You can print and mail just the state.  

The first page of the printout will be a coversheet with directions on what to include with the return and the mailing address for the amendment.

Make sure you sign the amended return before you mail it.

You generally must file an amended return within three years of the date you filed the original return or within two years after the date you paid the tax, whichever is later.
