Maryland Direct Debit -- How Long Does it Take?

Hello! I e-filed on 1/30 and did Direct Debit to pay both the federal and state (Maryland) what I owe. Federal came out of my account almost immediately, but the state still hasn't taken their money after 2 weeks. Is this normal or should I be worried that something is wrong? This is my first time doing Direct Debit, so I do not know what to expect.

Thanks,

MB

We don't have control over returns, refunds, or tax payments once the return has processed, but I would not worry.

If a state is backlogged, they will be slower than the IRS.

It's easier to check on refunds than it is to check tax payments. You just need to be patient.

Did your debit go through yet? My fed payment cleared right away but MD state has not. There seems to be no way to check on the status of payments.

Hello! After a getting a payment notice in the mail, I called to see what the direct debit holdup was. She said it was scheduled for 4/30 and not 1/30 as I intended. I had to make a payment on the state's website to avoid it being late. Now I'm worried they won't follow through with canceling the 4/30 payment. *sigh*

My situation exactly! (except with Michigan State taxes due). I received a letter stating I owed MI taxes that was over twice as much as calcuated by TurboTax. Calling the state was impossilble (to find out the problem) and internet on the website again stated the incorrect amount. I scheduled direct debit from the same account and the same date Fed taxes due. The Federal debit went through as scheduled, but not the MI debit. So I guess I've learned my lesson ... do NOT e-file MI taxes with TurboTax (even though it cost me extra!). In previous years I've either sent a check (which was cashed immediately), or paid online through their website and then mailed my returns showing no taxes due. I'll now pay my 2025 taxes due on/before April 15 online (as calculated by TurboTax) and hope there will be no problems.
