IRS taking too long

I’ve been waiting for over 21 days for my taxes, I can’t get a hold of anyone from the IRS i’ve tried calling but it’s always too busy. What can I do?

This is normal. It can take anywhere from a few days to 3 weeks to update and show the status. The 21 days is just an estimated time frame. The IRS began processing returns on 2/12, you may not find a record of it or the website may say that you have put in incorrect information when tracking your federal refund. As your return moves through the system, the status of it will be updated.

Since Turbo Tax will not have the status of your refund, continue checking the Where’s My Federal Refund tool for updates. Updates are made daily, usually overnight.

I thought they started processing Jan 24

Are you receiving your Refund by Direct Deposit or a mailed check? Direct Deposit is much quicker, so if it by mail, it could take a few weeks longer.

Yes, they did.   The Internal Revenue Service announced that the nation's tax season will start on Monday, January 24, 2022, when the tax agency will begin accepting and processing 2021 tax year returns.   @taxme58

Ok, because the post said 2/12. Mine was accepted on 1/21/22, but no bars and no letters saying what's wrong as of yet.

IRS taking too long

Refunds usually take about 21 days after the IRS has accepted your e-filed return. Although, sometimes it can take longer. The IRS is taking more than 21 days (and up to 90 to 120 days) to issue refunds for tax returns with the Recovery Rebate Credit, Earned Income Tax Credit and Additional Child Tax Credit. Please see What if my IRS refund is taking longer than 21 days? for more information.

If the IRS has accepted your e-filed return, you can check the status of your refund by going directly to https://www.irs.gov/refunds.

You can also try calling the WMR automated hotline at 1-800-829-1954 to check the status of your refund.
