I am getting this reason.
I know the names and ssn numbers are not incorrect nor do I make that agi. How did the site get it that wrong?
You'll need to sign in or create an account to connect with an expert.
Those are generic reasons why they adjusted the Recovery Rebate Credit on your return. A common adjustment is if you claimed the Recovery Rebate Credit on 1040 line 30 when you already got the 3rd Stimulus payment or reported the wrong amounts. Do you have an amount on line 30? The IRS knows they already sent it to you. Line 30 is only if you didn't get the full amount or qualify more.
How much is missing? Check 1040 line 30. A common reason this year is if you tried to claim the Recovery Rebate Credit (for the 3rd Stimulus 1,400 per person) when the IRS already sent it to you. Line 30 is only if you didn't get the full amount or qualify for more. Not the amount you already got.
Double check your bank statements and check your IRS account (both accounts if married) to see what they sent you.

@christhrives - what is on Line 30 of Form 1040 and what did the IRS adjust the recovery credit to?
There was a point during the TT interview process where you were to enter how much you had ALREADY received. if that number did not match the IRS records of what they sent you, then the IRS adjusted your tax return (i.e. adjusted Line 30)
if you received the 3rd stimulus ($1400 for each person on your tax return), then Line 30 should have been zero. is that the problem?
I have not received my corrected form back. I was just alerted on the IRS website of that information. It looks as though Turbotax put in 4200 but I put in all the information we received by IRS with the child tax credit. I did not receive anything else.
Said they mailed the correction 10 days ago.
The Recovery Rebate Credit is on line 30. Nothing to do with the Child Tax Credit on line 28. Oh, you have 4200 on line 30? That is the amount for 3 persons (1400x3). And you didn't get any of the 3rd stimulus that came out last March 2021. Like I said above double check your bank statements. They IRS shows they already sent it to you.
If you didn't get the 3rd Stimulus check but the IRS shows they sent it to you then request a trace for a missing third Stimulus payment

oh - so you entered the $4200 in the child care credit module and not the Recovery Credit module??????
I did not enter anything. The tax platform here did. I am checking my account to see if there is anything the site missed.
there were TWO things that required input for these credits by you. There was no way for TT to calculate them.
1) how much did you receive for the 3rd stimulus
2) how much did you receive for the advance child tax credit
if the response to these questions do not match what the IRS records show they sent you, then the iRS is adjusting the return. (and only adjusting if it favors the IRS - ugh)
Right. If you did not enter anything then you tried to claim it again. You had to enter the amount you already got. Line 30 is only if you didn't get the full amount or qualify for more.
well first, do not accuse me of something LOL
But I was able to get in touch and find out the problem.
I purchased the package to do all of it.........all I had to do was put in my income.
Thanks anyway.
Huh? You have to enter more things than just your income. Turbo Tax tells you how much 3rd Stimulus payment you are eligible for and if you received it. You had to enter the amount you already got or it gives you the full amount again. A lot of people forgot they got the deposit last year March - May. Or missed one payment and entered the wrong amount. Then when the IRS reduces their refund and they check their bank accounts they have been finding the payments.
Did you check your bank account? You found the problem? What was it? It may help someone else.
"all I had to do was put in my income. "
it doesn't work that way.
thanks to the complexity introduced by "your government in action".
Even before in easier times....
Always print a copy of your completed tax return for your records, and review it carefully before e-Filing.
You will need it if you are audited by the IRS, or to amend if a TurboTax update changes your return or for any other reason,
AND, to find your AGI next year.
