Thank you. I appreciate your answer and very precise. I agree - something w child credit and letter I got explained in more detail and got me confused about it because I known TurboTax didn’t miss or mark any issues w my return and child info. I’ve been filing w TurboTax for 8 years.
I am curious if there are any issues again this year related to ADVCTC and how to file schedule 8812. I wonder if TurboTax prompts for 8812 to be filed using TurboTax. We all have to file 8812 who got advCTC. I’ll have to search on this topic I guess. I feel like filling through accountant after so many years to make sure all is done as it should be.
Thanks again.
Yes, TurboTax prompts Form 8812. Everyone, whether you have dependents or not, has to answer the question ''Did you receive Advance Child Tax Credit Payments''. If you received any advance payments or if you qualify for a child dependent credit, your return will contain Form 8812. Form 8812 is not new, but the advance payments are. Part of the Child Tax Credit can be refundable. The changes with the Child Tax Credit and advance payments lead to more of the credit being refundable. Refundable credits, like the Earned Income Credit and part of the Child Tax Credit can't be processed before mid-February (although some test returns with these credits are occasionally processed before that time).
See, Facts About the PATH Act and Tax Refunds. More people are affected by these rules this year due to the changes in the way the Child Tax Credit is calculated and reported on your tax return. You will probably get a date on Where's My Refund next week when they start issuing refunds with refundable credits, so don't sweat it too much this week. @MalaSarajka
