TurboTax does not receive any kind of tax refund, federal or state.

If you requested to have the TurboTax account fees deducted from your federal tax refund, the IRS will send the refund to a third party processor to have the fees and the service charge deducted. The third party processor will deduct the TurboTax fees plus the service charge and then attempt to direct deposit the remaining refund balance into the account that you entered on your tax return.

For the status of your tax refund you will need to contact the third party processor, Santa Barbara Tax Product Group, using their website - https://www.sbtpg.com/

I never received my 2022 refund.

Hi Donin. I went to the TPG site and input all the correct fields from my 2022 tax return, yet the system said there was no refund on file. Why is this?

I have submitted a claim to their contact us team. How could I have filed my tax return through Intuit Turbotax, not receive my return, and then the third party distributor does not have my return on file either?

I will note, I spoke with the IRS. They informed me that my return was approved and that Turbotax re-routed my return. I'm not sure why this is because I did not elect to pay the turbotax fee with my return. I paid with card prior to receiving my return. This whole situation seems messed up.

@yaboick15 If you paid your TurboTax account fees with a credit card then the federal tax refund would not have been sent to SBTPG.  It would have been sent to the bank account you entered for direct deposit.

Look at your federal tax return, Form 1040.  The bank routing and account number will be shown Lines 35b and 35d.

The bank routing and account number will also be shown on the Federal Information Worksheet Part V, included in the PDF of your return.

Thank you for walking me through this Donin. I have downloaded and reviewed my tax return. The account and routing numbers are completely invalid. They aren't even close to representing my account. Additionally, the account number is only 8 digits. Mine is 10.

What could have happened here? I've used the same bank account for my tax filings the past 4 years. The bank account appears to have been swapped. Why?

Did you request a Credit Karma Money account for your direct deposit?

What is the routing number on your tax return?

What else could this be? I have no clue how to get this return. It appears like the money has been sent to someone else.

Did you use the Online version or the Desktop installed program?  Did you get a state refund if you had one?  You may have used the refund processing service when you added a state return or some other service.  Like in the Desktop program to pay the s$25 state efile fee.

@VolvoGirl It was Online browser. No state refund, I live in Florida. I did not use the refund to pay for the service as I did not add a state return. The federal return was $422. I have viewed my return file. The account and routing number submitted is not mine.

I'm beginning to believe that there was a security breach in filing.

@yaboick15 What is the name of the bank associated with the routing number posted on your tax return?

You can use this website for a routing number lookup - https://routingnumber.aba.com/default1.aspx

@DoninGA here is the bank. Morgan Stanley Private Bank National Association.

That's happened before.  It's was from the broker.   If you logged into Turbo Tax by going though an investment website like Fidelity, Those have been known to change your deposit to your investment account. So check all your accounts if you have those.

One poster found this.....

The refund was sent to a bank I didn't recognize because Schwab where I have an account uses an intermediary bank, JP Morgan. So the refund was in my Schwab account which has little activity and I had not checked. I had not had a refund in so long, I did not remember the default account I had set up years ago for refunds.

Bingo. You found it @VolvoGirl. It went directly to my investment account which I had set up a year or two prior. Thanks so much for your help!
