The advance child tax credit was available each month from July through December of 2021. The credit was $300 per month for each child under the age of 6 and $250 per month for each child aged 6 through 17 in 2021.
If you did not receive the advance child credits in 2021 then you were eligible for the the CTC on your 2021 tax return filed in 2022.
If you have dependent children on your 2021 tax return under the age of 18 in 2021 the Child Tax Credit will be reported on your federal tax return, Form 1040, on Line 28. It is added to your other tax payments, it is not a separate refund. Your Total taxes from Line 24 are subtracted from your Total tax payments on Line 33. If you have an overpayment then that is entered on Line 34 as your federal tax refund.
