Huh? You can't include 2022 on a 2021 return.
The IRS allows using capital losses for the current year to be applied in an amended return for the previous year. I am trying to do that with turbotax, but I cannot get any help in doing it.
As Volvogirl mentions above, while Individuals may carry forward a capital loss to future years, indefinitely until used up. Individuals may not carry back any part of a net capital loss to a prior year (C corporations may carry back and carry forward capital losses).
Are you filing an Individual return or a Corporate Return?
Please feel free to reach out to TurboTax Community if you need additional help or click here for information on Turbo Tax Support. You can connect with a Live Agent over the phone and share your screen.
the only capital loss eligible for carryback are from regulated future contract losses - section 1256 contracts (form 6781) but there are special rules that must be followed in calculating the amount of carryback. other than 1256 losses, no capital losses are eligible for carryback so if you saw that somewhere please post the link. if it a 1256 loss carryback you amend by reporting the carryback on form 6781 for 2021.
