The Federal and State refund process varies and is handled separately. If it has been more than 21 days since your return have been accepted then you may call the IRS customer service at 1-800-829-1040 to inquire the status of your tax return.

The IRS releases most refunds within 21 calendar days after the e-file has been accepted (received), not 21 days from the e-filing date. For mailed returns, allow 5-6 weeks from the postmark date.

If you opted to e-file and you entered an incorrect account number for direct deposit, the government will mail you a refund check, allow 5-6 weeks from the postmark date.

Keep in mind, if you claimed the EIC (Earned Income Credit) or ACTC (Additional Child Tax Credit), the IRS expects the first of these refunds to be available in taxpayer bank accounts or on debit cards by the first week of March.
