My efiles for the Federal and State taxes were rejected and told me to file by mail which I did on April 4-5. I have received my state refund. I have received no word on the Federal. When I check the IRS web site, it doesn't show it as received or accepted...only that there is no information. I'm not sure what to do now. I there a number I can call to talk to a human? Should I refile? Will I now be penalized since it's past the filing date if they have no record of receiving it? Any advice is appreciated.

TurboTax will not have any information about a return that you mailed. The IRS does not give any information to TurboTax. Mailed returns take longer to process. All you can do is wait for a human to open the envelope your return was mailed in and enter it into the system. When that happens--and it can take weeks----you will be able to track your refund on the IRS refund site. The postmark on your envelope shows the IRS when you filed. When you are getting a refund there is no penalty for filing after the deadline. You are only subject to penalties when you owe tax due and file late.
You need your filing status, your Social Security number and the exact amount (line 35a of your 2022 Form 1040) of your federal refund to track your Federal refund:
I know that Turbo Tax has no record since it wasn't filed electronically. I was just hoping someone would have a suggestion about my next steps other than just wait and hope they got it. Even the IRS says wait six weeks but it's been seven and now I'm worried they didn't get it at all and I'll have to pay a penalty for a late filing. I'll keep trying though.
Did you owe tax due to the IRS? Nothing is going to show up on the IRS refund site if you owed. The way you will know it was received if you owed is if the IRS cashed the check or money order you included with your return, or if they took a direct debit out of your account. Has a payment posted to your bank or credit card account?
If you did not owe, or are getting a refund, then you do not have to worry about a penalty.
Ok that's helpful. I definitely don't owe so I guess all I can do is wait. Thanks.
