E-Filing is Closed for 2023 1040-X?

I am trying to amend 2023 Form 1040. Is it too late to e-file Form 1040-X for 2023? I get a message: E-filing is Closed for the Season, You can File by Mail.

I am not able to e-file because the IRS's e-filing system is now closed for 2023 returns? If I wait until later January of next year, will I be able to e-file?

I understand: The 1040-X follows typical e-file availability rules, where the current year and two prior can be filed electronically.

So TurboTax doesn't support e-filing amended returns after the extended due date of the original return (i.e., October 15th) even thought the IRS accepts e-filing for two prior years? I would like to know for my future reference.

Only certain paid tax pros using professional tax software can e-file past year amended returns. You cannot e-file an amended return that you prepared yourself using TurboTax. Your 1040X must be printed, signed and dated in ink, and then you need to mail it in. Use a mailing service like certified mail so you will know the IRS received it, since you will have a long wait for it to be processed.
