My husband and I I are being married for a year and I’m about to apply for my residency . But I have a installment agreement with the IRS which I’ve been paying every month. Because of that I decide to file my return as MFS so my husband’s refund don’t get compromised because of me . I think it’s not fair .
We have lots of others proofs that our marriage is bona fide . Will my return be a big deal in this case? Thanks a lot !!

Every tax year you are married you can choose to file either jointly or separately. If you file jointly you can also add an injured spouse form to the return so that you can take advantage of the MFJ benefits but save the injured spouse's portion of the refund. Before you file check the returns both ways.
Didn’t know that , thanks a lot!
