What does "Your tax return is still being processed. A refund date will be provided when available." Exactly mean?

And I did try the tax assistance number who told me there's nothing I can do but wait  and they can't help me unless I lose my job or am in a natural disaster. so fingers crossed for a tornado I guess

BTW: I'M STILL SEEING YOUR TAXES ARE STILL BEING PROCESSED AND THEY STILL HOLD MY STIMULUS CHECK FOR THE FULL 1200$ THEY SAID THAT WOULD BE DIRECT DEPOSITED WITHIN 2 WKS AFTER MY REFUND HAS BEEN GIVEN?? Apparently I must be in the same boat.  Filed July 14th.  Been "in process" since.  Can't seem to talk to a real person when I call the IRS.  I have not received a letter or any correspondence.  Can anyone tell me how to contact someone to get my return moving forward?

After the tax return has been Accepted by the IRS (meaning only that they received the return) it will be in the Processing mode until the tax refund has been Approved and then an Issue Date will be available on the IRS website.

If over 21 days since being Accepted by the IRS and the tax refund is still Processing you can call the IRS and speak with an IRS agent concerning your tax refund.
Call the IRS: 1-800-829-1040 hours 7 AM - 7 PM local time Monday-Friday
When calling the IRS do NOT choose the first option re: "Refund", or it will send you to an automated phone line.
So after first choosing your language, then do NOT choose Option 1 (refund info). Choose option 2 for "personal income tax" instead.
Then press 1 for "form, tax history, or payment".
Then press 3 "for all other questions."
Then press 2 "for all other questions."
- When it asks you to enter your SSN or EIN to access your account information, don't enter anything.
- After it asks twice, you will get another menu.

Press 2 for personal or individual tax questions.
Then press 4 for all other inquiries
It should then transfer you to an agent.

There is nothing you can do...  I first filed in February and only got half in June!  I had to file an amended tax form in July for the rest of my dependent refund and i'm still waiting.  This has been the most awful tax year i've ever had!  I don't understand why it's so messed up this year.  Good luck to you!

Exactly!!! When is TurboTax gonna address this. I filed my taxes March 1st, got a letter a week later that i was missing the form and immediately filed it out and sent it back. Guess what still no return!!! I called and complained when this happened and the customer service rep essentially shrugged her shoulders and said too bad. WTF.

I finally got to speak to a very kind and nice agent who told me I should be reliving my refund in about 2 weeks, but it could possibly be up to 9 weeks. She said they had just gotten back into their offices and were trying to get caught up. So, what if we haven’t gotten our refund before it’s time to file again?

I changed mine so I wouldn’t have to pay any taxes. But now they owe me a refund that I’ll probably never see.

Mine has updated to, we have received your tax refund and it’s being processed. It was saying your tax refund is still being processed.

I filed March 27th and finally my deposit date it tom the 16th. I had to fax info over due to identity concerns. If I hadn't had called to find out after 3 months why I hadn't got my refund I still wouldn't have it. My letter never got sent out due to the whole covid thing. It has held me from getting my stimulus check too so finally 6 months later it's here

Once your stats changes to we have received your return and is BEING processed your getting close. The wording is tricky
