Amending 2019 Return

While doing my 2020 tax return I realized I forgot to include the contributions we made to my kids' Edvest accounts on our 2019 WI return. Info from that return needs to be entered into the 2020 WI return for the contributions we made in 2020.

Anyway my question is since I only need to amend my WI 2019 return do I also need to mail in an amendment to my 2019 Fed return?

I did the amendment in TurboTax and it is saying my Fed refund is $0 (WI's return is now $39 for 2019). I've never had to do an amendment before and I'm not sure what to do.

You will not be able to amend your tax return until it has been accepted by the IRS.  Please see the below FAQ for more information on amending a 2020 tax return:

The amendment is on my 2019 return, which was filed and accepted last spring. While doing my 2020 return I realized I forgot to include something in last year's return.

Please follow the instructions at the FAQ here to Amend a prior year return.  Please note, this mentions 2018 but use it for your 2019 return.
