Amend 1040 after I qualified non-resident status

I left US by end of Nov of 2020. The whole 2021 I was outside of the US.

When I file 1040 for 2020 on April 2021, I was not qualified as non-resident status from Dec, 2020 - 2021 (not reach 12 months duration at that time.) So I filed it as resident.

So now I asked Turbotax to amend my 2020 return by filling my qualified non-resident status from Dec.2020.  Turbotax did it by filling 1040x and excluded my foreign income during Dec.2020.

But now I realized I was dual status in 2020 and I was non-resident by end of 2020, I should file 1040NR for 2020, is it true?  Why Turbox tax didn't mention this during I requested 2020 amend?

TurboTax does not support dual-status or nonresident returns. You can file an amended nonresident or dual-status return with our partner Sprintax.com.

Hello, thanks for your prompt reply. So you agree I should file dual status for 2020 and there's no other choice?

If you are a dual status alien (and it certainly seems that you were) then there is no other choice.  For the period that you were a non-resident, though, you would exclude foreign income so that seems to have been done correctly.  While TurboTax does not support a dual status return it may be that everything was correct on the amended return so you won't have to file another amendment.  You should contact Sprintax and see what they say.

Here are the IRS rules on dual status aliens.
