Hello,
I am filing my 2019 taxes (finally). I am using TurboTax for the first time. I filed an amended 2017 return in late 2019, due to the tax preparer not including income I had to pay an additional $3,152.
Is there a way to document this? I looked at all the other tax situations but didn't see this topic covered.
Thank you in advance for any help you can provide.

Stop----what software are you trying to use? The current online program is only for 2020 returns. You cannot use the online program for any other year.
Online preparation and e-filing for 2017, 2018 and 2019 is permanently closed.
To file a return for a prior tax year
If you need to prepare a return for 2017, 2018, or 2019 you can purchase and download desktop software to do it, then print, sign, and mail the return(s)

You may also want to explore purchasing the software from various retailers such as Amazon, Costco, Best Buy, Walmart, Sam’s, etc.
Remember to prepare your state return as well—if you live in a state that has a state income tax.
When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s. Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.
Federal and state returns must be in separate envelopes and they are mailed to different addresses. Read the mailing instructions that print with your tax return carefully so you mail them to the right addresses.
Note: The desktop software you need to prepare the prior year return must be installed/downloaded to a full PC or Mac. It cannot be used on a mobile device.
If you are getting a refund, there is not a penalty for filing past the deadline. If you owe taxes, the interest/penalties will be calculated by the IRS based on how much you owe and when they receive your return and payment. The IRS will bill you for this; it will not be calculated by TurboTax.
Thanks for the fast response. I did purchase the desktop software and that's what I'm using now. What I'm curious about is the additional 3 grand I paid in 2019 for 2017. is there someplace I can show I paid that additional tax? Or maybe it doesn't make any difference. I really appreciate any guidance you can provide.
I HAD TO PAY BACK TAX OWED
The money you paid to the IRS for a previous year’s federal tax return is not deductible, so you do not enter it anywhere on your 2020 return. If you paid taxes due in 2020 to your state or local government, you can enter that by going to Federal> Deductions and Credits> Estimates and Other Taxes Paid> Other Income Taxes. You can enter the taxes you paid, but do not include any penalties or interest.
There are six states that allow you to enter the federal tax you paid on your state return--Alabama, Iowa. Louisiana, Missouri, Montana, and Oregon. If you are filing in one of these states watch for the deduction when you prepare your state return.
