My FED and STATE 2019 returns were accepted 3/22/20. Now, I need to pay my taxes owed to the IRS and pay my EST taxes to IRS and CA FTB for 2020. Usually I send my payments to CA FTB electronically, but tax payments to IRS I write a check made out to IRS and mail it "RETURN RECEIPT REQUESTED" at the post office. Here is my concern (please read carefully): I don't want to go stand in line at the post office during this pandemic! So does anyone have a recommendation on how to pay my taxes? I don't want problems with the IRS obviously. Should I wait until June or July to send my tax payment?

Yes you can wait to pay tax due or estimates until July 15. Why aren't you paying the IRS directly online like CA?

Hello Volvogirl,
My reasons for not paying my 2019 taxes due to the IRS are:
1) TT does not give instructions for doing so. "Instructions for mailing..." are given only.
2) I'm a creature of habit and do it the same way every year.
3) I don't like to pay a fee for paying electronicly/online payments.
Nevertheless, I appreciate you response and advice and probably will go ahead and pay the IRS directly. I will possibly save $ b/c when I mail the payment USPS, I always pay about $6.00 for Return Receipt Requested.

Hello VolvoGirl,
Wow! I just paid my 2019 1040-V tax payment and my 2020 1040-ES tax payment using www.irs.gov/directpay as you so wisely suggested! It was so easy and convenient. I thank you thousand times!
