We get max tax benefit for me to claim our children as dependents, but they were accidentally added to both returns. He e-filed first. We are married and filing separately. My e-file was rejected and I mailed my return to the IRS. He plans to amend his return to remove the dependents. In the meantime, will the IRS go ahead and process my paper return and send my refund as my husband's amendment would still be pending.

A rejected return was never filed, as far as the IRS is concerned, it doesn’t exist. Also, fixing a rejected return is not an amended return, it is still an original return after being corrected. Don’t start the amending process, silly change what needs changing.
