Notice CP12

If the IRS did not offer to correct your return then you need to file an amended return.

TurboTax can guide you through this and has an option to connect to a Live Tax Expert if  needed.

A CP12 Notice is issued  when the IRS corrects one or more mistakes on your tax return, and a payment becomes an overpayment, or an original overpayment amount has changed.

Notice CP12

I received CP12 for Recovery Rebate Credit. How do I know what errors were found on taxes that were filed?

Notice CP12

Read your notice carefully. For additional clarification, call the IRS at the number shown on your notice @rogeryesi. You can also check out the TurboTax Audit Center for help.

Below the Adjusted refund is an area showing what part of the tax return the IRS adjusted.

You will see more detailed info at:

  • Changes to your 2021 return
  • Your tax calculations
  • Your payments and credits

Compare these against your original return.
