I live in new hampshire and am self employed as a financial advisor for a company based out of massachusetts. All of my clients are new hampshire residents. Am I required to file a non resident massachusetts return

No. All your self-employed income is sourced in New Hampshire.

This is so even if the company you contract with is based in Massachusetts.

How do I choose state residency? I am employed in NC and have lived there for the past year, but my driver's license, voter registration and mail is in IL.
