My state refund amount is $1,425 but only received $71. Is there any explanation for it?

Only your state department of revenue can answer that question.  They should be sending you a letter in the next few weeks explaining the changes they made to your tax return which resulted in the lower tax refund.

You can also call the state department of revenue to see if they will provide you with an explanation.

Yes, there's definitely an explanation for it, but you need to contact your state and ask them. Follow this link for contact info. 

Some possible reason for the change:

• You owed back taxes, or another debt to your state and they took the amount out of you refund. 
• There was an easily verifiable error on the return you filed and your state corrected it before issuing your refund. If that is the case, you will get a letter explaining the change. 
• Your state return included a credit and your state didn't allow the credit. You will get a letter about this one too.
