My child filed already, said someone could claim her as dependent. We later found out she doesn't qualify as dependent. Does she amend? Can I e-file? What should we do?

https://ttlc.intuit.com/questions/4062150-my-son-filed-his-own-taxes-and-claimed-himself-instead-ind....  I think my question is related to this from a couple years ago. I think we have a similar situation except we (parents) haven't filed our return yet.  The previous years I have answered questions on taxes and since she was a student and we provided almost all her support, she was claimed as a dependent.  So when she did her own taxes, I thought she would be again and advised her to answer that way.  Then when starting our own taxes and answering the questions we discovered she doesn't qualify as dependent because she made over $4150 and is not a full-time student any more.  She does live at home and we provide all her support.  Does she need to amend her return?  Can I go ahead and e-file mine?  What's the situation we are in now and how do I resolve it?  Thank you for any help or guidance.

Yes, you can go ahead and efile your return, but first delete her from TurboTax, so that you don't accidentally claim something.

She probably doesn't need to file an amended return. Under the new law, most dependents (and potential dependents) come out the same whether she claims herself or not. .

But the only way to be sure is to use TT to make the change and observe the result
