Even during “normal” times it takes about four months for the IRS to process an amended return. During the pandemic and due to the severe backlog at the IRS it is taking much longer—six months or more for many amended returns. Do not expect quick results from amending. When the IRS issues a refund for an amended return it will be by check. They do not make direct deposits for refunds for amended returns. You can watch for information here:

Thanks for the reply but that didn't answer my question. I know how long it can take and I stated that when I went on there to check the status of it they said they are sending me a notice within 3 weeks of there decision. I have no idea what that means and why they don't complete it in the site and show if you have money coming back. It's a guessing game with them all the time and that's sad because when you owe money they're quick and to the point about and that's how it should be with everything they do. So all I'm asking is what do they mean by that and is that any clue as to if I was approved or not?
@Jtortora70 TurboTax does not receive any information from the IRS about your amended return, nor can TT get any information you are not already seeing on the IRS site. You do not say why you amended or what refund you saw on your Form 1040X. We have no access to your account or your return so we cannot tell you how much the IRS is going to send you or when they will send it---except to caution you that you are likely in for a long wait.
Hello you can call them and they should be able to give you some information
I filed my Amend Return on March 24 for my 2020 tax year electronically. It said up to 16 weeks. When it got to the 16 week it said We are sorry for the inconvenience. We have not been able to process your amended taxes yet. Please call us. I called them and got no real help. Just said you should hear something back in 30 days. This has been very frustrating.
Good luck with trying to get information when you call. They give you the sand information that's on the website

More than six months is unacceptable. True the pandemic speed down alot of processes, but everything is opened up now and if the IRS needs to hire additional people to get the job done that's what they should do!
How long from adjusted to complete did it take?
No i have not received nothing yet
You experts are not being very clear. I know how to file for an amended return, just not how long the experts know by now. Have any of your customers received a check?
@emilar59 No one here can give you an exact time frame for when you will receive your refund, since ONLY the IRS is in control. We know that the IRS is taking a very long time to process amended returns. No one at TurboTax ever gets any information from the IRS after you file your tax return. If you want to spend a long time on the phone and take the chance that your call will be one of the very small percentage of calls answered by th IRS, then you can call the IRS to ask about your amended return.
To call the IRS:IRS: 800-829-1040 hours 7 AM - 7 PM local time Mon-Fri
Listen to each menu before making the selection.
First choose your language. Press 1 for English.
Then do NOT choose the first choice re: "Refund", or it will send you to an automated phone line.
Instead, press 2 for "personal income tax".
Then press 1 for "form, tax history, or payment".
Then press 3 "for all other questions."
Then press 2 "for all other questions." It should then transfer you to an agent.
I think it is unacceptable also. When they want their money they make sure they get it.
They can process all this other money I don’t see why it takes so long for an amendment. I did Mind electronically so all the information is there.
I have gotten through twice but honestly there was not much they could say. They have no clue. They need a better system
